2021 Little League Baseball Age Determination Chart

Please note that Baseball and Softball have different age determination charts.  Baseball runs from September 1-August 31 and Softball is from January 1-December 31.  So a girl born on June 30, 2011 will be a baseball league age 12 while she would be a softball league age 11.

T-Ball Division (League Age 4-6; 7 year olds also ok if new to the sport)
Coach Pitch Division (League Age 7-8; 6 year olds ok with assessment, 9 year olds ok if new to the sport)
Farm Division (League Age 9-11; 12 year olds ok if new to the sport)
Major Division (League Age 11-12)
Intermediate Division (League Age 11-13)

T-Ball Division (League Age 4-6; 7 year olds also ok if new to the sport)

In the T-Ball division, we focus on small teams and teaching children the basics of baseball. Children hit off a tee, there are no outs recorded and all children bat each inning. Games generally are about 3 innings long (approximately 1 hour) and for most of the season will be on Saturday or Sunday only, with one weekday (1-1.5 hour) practice. In June there may be one weekday game and one weekend game.

Coach Pitch Division (League Age 7-8; 6 year olds ok with assessment, 9 year olds ok if new to the sport)

Placement in a division will be based on age and skill level as determined by the league after evaluations in March 2022.

Games are 6 innings or 1 hour and 45 minutes in length. New innings will not start after 1.5 hours.

A - Rookie Division (Generally 6/7 year olds, first or second season of coach pitch baseball)

Our 6-7 year olds are introduced to a coach pitching to them, having to make outs in the field and more advanced baserunning.
  • A coach will pitch overhand to the batters from in front of the mound, players will be granted 4 swinging strikes per at bat. If after 4 strikes the player has not made contact, they return to the bench, but an out is not recorded.
  • Each inning is over when 3 outs are recorded in the field (e.g. caught pop up, out on the bases, etc.) or one time through the lineup.
  • There are no advancing on overthrows to any base.
Players in this division by the end of a season should begin hitting off of pitching on a regular basis, begin catching a ball thrown to them and understand baserunning concepts like not advancing on a caught batted fly ball with less than 2 outs.

AA - Advanced Division (Generally 8 year olds, or 7 year olds with significant playing experience)

This division is meant to prepare our 7 and 8 year olds for Farms and Majors. Players must play at least 1 season in the Coach Pitch Rookie division prior to moving up to AA.
  • A coach will pitch overhand to the batters from the mound area, players will strike out after 3 swinging strikes and an out will be recorded.
  • Each inning is over when 3 outs are recorded in the field (e.g. strikeout, caught pop-up, out on the bases, etc.).
  • There may be limited advancement on overthrows, determined by the playing rules for the season.
  • As the season progresses, 8-year old players may have the opportunity to pitch. These opportunities will be limited to 1 inning per pitcher and no more than 2 player-pitched innings per game.
Players in this division by the end of the season should be hitting the ball consistently, catching a thrown ball regularly, begin catching a batted ball and understanding where and how outs are made in the field.

Farm Division (League Age 9-11)

In the Farm division, players will pitch from a mound 45 feet away (pitch counts limited as per Little League rules). Outs are recorded and teams have a limit of 5 runs scored per inning (no limit in final inning). Games are 6 innings and up to 2 hours in length.

There is one weekday practice and one weekend practice (both 1.5 hours in length), and once games begin there is generally a weekday practice, a weekday game, and a Saturday game. Makeup games are played on Sunday unless otherwise arranged by coaches.

There is a minimum of 12 regular season games scheduled and an end of season single-elimination tournament for all teams.

Major Division (League Age 11-12)

In the Major division, players will pitch from a mound 45 feet away (pitch counts limited as per Little League rules). In this division, teams may play single games of 6 innings and up to 2 hours in length, or modified 4-inning doubleheaders (total of 8-innings) and up to 3 hours in length.

There is one weekday practice and one weekend practice (both 1.5 hours in length), and once games begin there is generally a weekday practice, two weekday games, and a Saturday game, or one weekday game and a Saturday doubleheader. Makeup games are played on Sunday unless otherwise arranged by coaches.

There is a minimum of 12 regular season games scheduled and an end of season single-elimination tournament for all teams.

Intermediate Division (League Age 11-13)

In the Intermediate division, base lengths are 70 feet and the pitching mound is 50 feet away.  Standard baseball rules apply, including leading from bases.  Games are 7 innings and up to 2.5 hours in length.

This team will play most games on Sunday and will travel to other towns in Connecticut.  Past opponents have included Weston, Fairfield, Ridgefield, Coginchaug, Killingsworth, Guilford, and Cheshire.

Players may choose to play Intermediate division and Majors division simultaneously, the games will not overlap.  Pitching rules do apply across both divisions.  There is a discount for players who play in both divisions.

A deposit of $50 is required to register.  If we do not have enough enrollment then your deposit will be refunded.
